About Rachael

As the current editor at the Westside Current, Rachael works every day to improve the city she now calls home. She grew up in northern New Jersey and is a descendant of Italian and Slovak immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island as teenagers seeking refuge from the devastation World War II left across Europe.

Rachael spent her childhood dreaming of moving to Los Angeles. She worked three jobs throughout high school to save enough money to make that dream possible, and when the pandemic hit in 2019, she refused to let it derail her plans. At 18, she packed her bags and moved across the country to a city in lockdown. She believed she was moving to Venice, yet soon discovered she had rented a small house in Mar Vista with three other young women. The neighborhood became the place where she first witnessed some of the issues that have long challenged Los Angeles. After relocating to downtown Los Angeles for a more affordable rental, she began to understand even more about the parts of the city that never appear on the big screen. Her nearly two-hour commutes to school on the Westside revealed the stark contrasts that emerge within only a few miles. She joined the Westside Current as an investigative reporter soon after, determined to shine light on issues she felt were being overlooked. After a year of reporting, she was promoted to assistant editor, where she gained a deeper understanding of the city’s inner workings and the concerns that resonated most with readers. When her mentor, Jamie Paige, left for a new paper, Rachael became newsroom director and editor in chief of the Westside Current.

Now she works tirelessly each day to help ensure Angelenos can live in a city they are proud to call home.
